Dear CHE Community,
Over the past several months, we have shared with you the uncertainty surrounding CHE's future and the significant regulatory changes affecting programs like ours.
We have recently become aware that there was no path forward for the state to approve our application. As a result, CHE will not operate this season.
This is an incredibly difficult outcome after four years of building a community of families, staff, students, and partners. We worked hard to operate responsibly within Colorado's public education system, received strong compliance results from our authorizer, and showed what can happen when parents are trusted, educators are willing to innovate, and resources are focused on the individual needs of children.
New rules affecting programs like CHE are still being developed and are not expected to be finalized until later this year. Once there is greater clarity, we will evaluate whether a viable path exists for CHE to serve Colorado families again.
While CHE steps back for this season, the most important work continues in your homes and in the decisions you make for your children. We encourage you to never relinquish your responsibility for your child's education. Children are an extraordinary gift from God, and the responsibility to raise and educate them is not something to take lightly. Schools, teachers, programs, and organizations can be wonderful partners, but parents remain their children's first and most important advocates. Ask questions, seek what is best for each of your children, and protect your freedom to make educational decisions on their behalf.
We also encourage you to advocate for educational opportunity in Colorado. Tell your story. Share what CHE meant to your family and what your children gained from it. Policymakers and educational leaders need to hear directly from the families affected by these decisions.
Most of all, thank you for trusting us, believing in something new, and helping create a community that has meant so much to so many. While this is not the outcome we hoped for, we are profoundly grateful for these four years and for every family who made CHE possible.
We remain hopeful about what may come next. As the new rules become clear, we will keep exploring a path forward. If we are able to relaunch and open enrollment this spring, we hope you will consider joining us again.
With gratitude and hope for what is ahead,
Renee T. Miller
