Summary

The Director of Human Resources leads all aspects of people operations at Colorado Homeschool Enrichment (CHE), ensuring the organization remains compliant, mission-aligned, and people-centered. This role manages the full employee lifecycle, with a special focus on Colorado-specific employment law, workforce development, and HR systems integration. The ideal candidate is a compassionate, detail-oriented leader who can support strategic growth while fostering a healthy, collaborative culture.

All employment with Colorado Homeschool Enrichment (CHE) is “at-will,” which means that either the employee or CHE may terminate the employment relationship at any time, with or without cause, and with or without prior notice, subject to applicable federal and Colorado state laws. Nothing in any job posting, description, or CHE policy shall be interpreted to alter the at-will nature of employment.

Hiring Timeline

Key Responsibilities

- Oversee recruitment, hiring, and onboarding processes to ensure alignment with CHE’s mission and Colorado labor laws - Maintain compliance with all Colorado-specific laws, including HFWA (sick leave), FAMLI, Equal Pay for Equal Work Act, and contractor classification standards - Administer and update the CHE Employee Handbook, job descriptions, and HR documentation in coordination with leadership and legal advisors - Serve as the administrator for HR tools such as Gusto, Airtable, and Trello; maintain accurate personnel records and compliance logs - Coordinate employee relations, performance reviews, conflict resolution, and PIP (Performance Improvement Plan) processes - Manage leave policies (paid/unpaid), accommodations, workers’ compensation, and incident reporting - Track retention, turnover, and HR metrics; provide periodic reporting to the Executive Team - Support employee engagement, satisfaction surveys, and exit interviews - Ensure confidential handling of sensitive information and foster a respectful, inclusive work environment

Location

- Remote role based in Colorado - Some travel may be required for team meetings or trainings - Standard work hours with flexibility during onboarding seasons or audits

Preferred Qualifications

- Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field - PHR or SHRM-CP certification - Familiarity with managing both employees and independent contractors under Colorado guidelines - Experience implementing scalable systems for fast-growing, remote-first organizations

Required Qualifications

- 5+ years of progressive experience in HR leadership, ideally in a nonprofit, education, or mission-driven setting - Strong understanding of Colorado labor law and HR compliance (FAMLI, HFWA, Equal Pay, etc.) - Experience with HRIS systems such as Gusto, BambooHR, or similar - Demonstrated ability to manage sensitive issues with professionalism and discretion
